Flow Cytometry is a laser-based technology, employed for the analysis of cells and its characteristics. It helps understand cell surface and intracellular molecules, providing a differentiating index in a heterogenous cell population. This diagnostic method is employed to test bone marrow cells and determine the cause of bone cancer.
Cells are passed through a flow cytometer and the test measures the number and percentage of cell types in a sample of blood. The test also determines attributes such as – size, shape and presence of biomarkers on the surface of the cell. This test is capable of determining the residual levels of a disease even after the treatment, thus helping the doctors identify relapse and plan an appropriate treatment course.
